There is very little that is more confusing than when people from various points in time all converge...and then change the points in time they are from.

I do hope everyone has settled after all of that.

[ private; John ]

I hope you don't mind if I check in with you to see how you're doing?

[ private; Kylar ]

Any odd happenings as a result of losing your earring?

[ spam; Ned ]

[ There's hesitance in this, because what is the decorum when visiting the recently dead and now alive once more?

Tea, apparently. This is what Door decides, and thus this is what she brings as she enters the infirmary.
]

With any luck you like mint tea.

Good morning everyone!

As you probably heard, we will be in port soon. We will arrive in London, England, and for those of you who happen to remain Above, then I wish you the best of luck. I've only been once, it seemed very...tall. And busy. [ Door doesn't know much else about it so she pauses. ] I'm sure you will have a fantastic time.

For those of you that may end up Below, I have some information, suggestions, and general rules you may want to keep in mind during your stay.

First: The Floating Market is tonight, in Regent's Park. It is what it sounds like - a rather large market that changes location. There is a Truce in the Market, which means this: do not harm anyone. Any blood spilt or actions meant to cause harm to another will result in the entire Market coming down on your head, and there is nothing, absolutely nothing the Marquis or I will be able to do to help you.

Nor would we be willing, as you have been warned. So please, do not decide to test the limits of the Truce.

Now, in regards to the Market: most everything is done by trade. If you have old, defunct coins from worlds far away or fallen civilizations, those will do you just fine for food and the like, but for anything else your best option will be to go through your cabins and find things you feel you can part with. Any and everything you don't need or want can be used as currency to get any sort of thing in the Market.

Second: Do not offend or harm any rats you encounter during your stay Below. Again, if you decide to do this, the Marquis and I cannot help you out of whatever predicament you've managed to get yourself into.

Third: Trade and bargain is the way of life Below. Be certain you understand what you are giving up, and what you are receiving in return.

Fourth: There are a great many things Below that are not human and do not see humans (or anything other than more of themselves) as more than something delicious to snack on. Be careful. Move in groups. Befriend or purchase the help of someone who can assist you in staying alive.

Fifth: Your friends, family, acquaintances? They won't see you if you're Below. Even if you're standing right next to them.

Sixth: Always mind the gap.

If you have any questions, I can help! Just let me know. I've never written a primer for Below before, I'm sure there's something I've missed...

I hope everyone enjoyed all of their Christmas presents. I'm enjoying the food, without a doubt.

Are resolutions for the New Year unpopular on a prison ship?

[ The image opens to Door grinning while dressed in what is definitely not an attractive sweater by any means; not that she seems to mind at all. ]

So do we get to keep the jumpers?

Also I'm curious: what was your favorite gift to receive? Ever, during your life or existence, what have you. Could be while you were here, or otherwise. Could be for Christmas, or otherwise. Could be something tangible, something not. Whatever you like.

Only requirement is that it is your favorite.

[ The video opens to this face; smiling, polite, hands folded on the table in front of her. ]

Good evening. My name is Door; I am a new warden here, and I have a request for other wardens and inmates alike.

I am looking for partners to assist me in exploring our new location. The late 19th century held all sorts of fascinating opinions on women my age doing things on their own. Since I am new here I thought I would pose the request to all, and see if anyone was interested.

Thank you.

[spam for the duration of the port - make your own location in subject line ]

[ Door keeps to crowded places for the most part, which fortunately isn't hard at all; she's equally interested in both technology and art, seems to chat up people from all over the world and all over the Barge with ease and just a little bit of grace.

This is not what she was expecting, coming here, but it is fun.

Her cheek was grazed, and her dirty reddish hair was tangled; tangled, but not matted. And her eyes ...Richard realized that he could not tell what color her eyes were. They were not blue, or green, or brown, or gray; they reminded him of fire opals: there were burning greens and blues, and even reds and yellows that vanished and glinted as she moved.

CONTACT METHOD: Plurk! [plurk.com profile] sleepofreason
THREAD-JACKING: Go for it.
FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: There's no canon puncture to be had and I'd rather not have Door 4th walled
BACKTAGGING: Yes!
AVOIDED TOPICS: Rape, racism and aggressive homophobia are huge button pushers.
PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: she/her/hers

IC CHARACTERISTICS:
CURRENT CANON POINT: After Richard's return to London Below
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Door is short for her age, pale, and has a LOT of red hair. She dresses in clothes that looks like the Ren Faire robbed several antique stores and then got some hipsters to give them coordination advice. Her face is covered in freckles and her expressions are varied and demonstrative. She doesn't move silently, per se, but does have a habit of being somewhere she wasn't the last time you happened to look in that direction.
DEMEANOR: Door is warm. Kind. Curious. She smiles easily but is not as simple as she may appear. Everyone gets the benefit of the doubt, with Door - people are a variety and she is not a fan of assumptions. She is also a trauma survivor and acts like it, is aware of other's behavior and the possibility of things not being what they seem.
ABILITIES: The Porticos have a Talent and the Talent is thus: opening doors.

Which makes it a bit hilarious that her entire family is named for methods of entry, really, but there you have it.

Door can open doors into nearly anywhere, from nearly anywhere, but the act itself drains her with each door she opens; the further the other side of the door is from wherever the portal was originally opened, the more exhausted Door is immediately after. This ability can be used on any surface, living or otherwise, though Door has not had any chance to use it as a defensive skill to do any more than get her out of harm's way. She needs only to have a goal in mind to use this skill, and doesn't do so lightly.

She is also a rat-speaker, meaning ...she can talk to rats and mice. And pigeons.

Door's ability will be limited to ports and rooms she has access to on board the Barge/common areas, as far as trying to open doors through the material of the Barge itself. Passengers are okay with player permission.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Door can heal most injuries with a good night's sleep, or some approximation thereof.
CABIN INFORMATION: The door to Door's cabin, which is laid out like a mid-range London flat, almost but not quite exactly like Richard's. The layout is similar to this without the dimensions. Windows look out to a view of London from several floors up.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Angels, political murder of entire families, that sort of thing
